Sasha Grey PETA Ad Offensive? “They” Say So
By: Suzanne Schevelle For The A Entertainment News-
I wonder the street of New Orleans, where I live now, and I find myself where so many find themselves in New Orleans, on Bourbon Street. I walk down Rue Bourbon viewing the famous icons such as Galatiores or The Oyster House or, or , or… Hustler with their pictures of nude women blatantly facing the street so that any passerby may view. And as I walk this street I hear a wee little voice behind me say, “What’s that, Mom?” We pass Rick’s Cabaret and I then hear that same voice say, “Mom, I’m going to do that”, she says pointing at a girl on a pole. The whole group laughs, especially mom. I then recall an add I saw recently for PETA shot in black and white in which Sasha Grey is seated nude revealing little with her face turned towards the camera.
I remember the “uproar” from the “majority” that came from this add and I remember that little girl walking down a very public Bourbon Street accompanied by her parents viewing nude women who were prominently displayed with no cause linked to them, or clothing for that matter. As small as the girl was, she already made the association between sex and naked women and stripping simply by walking down one small old street in New Orleans. Now my question is, if she had seen the classy add of a beautiful body revealing nothing, however still nude, of Sasha Grey, would she have seen stripper/porn star, or “bad person” as the “majority” would like you to believe? Or, would she have seen the message of “Spay your animal” as the meaning predominantly displayed right next to her image?
The fact that a woman can have eight children and be seen as a celebrity for our children to adorn or the fact that some of our politicians have sex with little boy pages for a job and are looked up to without any noise from the majority is beyond me, but put a legitimate message in front of them with the human form attached and they are appalled. Perhaps we should remove the Statue of David or the Thinking Man, maybe the Venus de Milo should be thrown in the trash and covered for its vulgarity. Perhaps the “majority” should be educated rather than simply being vocal. Our hats off to PETA for not falling to the “majority”.
Hats off to www.PETA.org for the courage to stand up to the "Majority"
