Free Speech Revolution Interview with Dia Zerva

by M. Dickinson

1) How long have you been in the industry? How did you get started? Have you had fun in the industry?

I started in November 2007, fulltime May 2008 and each month I continue to have new types of fun.

2) Are you concerned with the rights of the adult industry to make and produce movies/web clips?

I am. Feel the majority in the business do not realize the complexity of federal and state laws. As an entrepreneur starting out with my own production company, it is overwhelming when understanding what rights we have and what actions are necessary to have a well organized business in the event of any inquiries.

3) A lot of the problem people have with the adult industry is the misconception that “pornographers” are always trying to lure under age people in and make “kiddie porn”. Could you talk about what it is actually like on a set, as far as having ID, signing model releases, having a AIM test, etc? Have you seen or heard of anyone in the legitimate adult industry knowingly using minors in films or the web?

A huge misconception which I think is a “grasping at straws” concept for those who feel pornography is nothing but a negative impact on the community. I have worked with solid production companies and here is the
routine: show 2 ids, AIM test copy or they have already printed a copy,
2257 and model release form signed, ids of performers and tests acknowledge among the performers, then prepare for the shoot. I have not heard of any companies’ ever shooting underage.

4) Do you ever get offended by shows like South Park or Family Guy? What do you think about shows/writing that offends people?

No. Humor is important and a reminder not to take life seriously. I support shows of this nature. People have a choice to watch or not to watch.

5) What do you think about some of the stuff that pushes the limit in the adult industry, stuff like Max Hardcore, Kink.com, JM Productions?

I am ambivalent. As I do both hardcore and BDSM I can see how someone not familiar with BDSM, fisting, large toys inserted anally, can be alarmed.
Kink has opening and closing interviews which help the viewer understand the performer’s reactions and feelings after the shoot.

6) Have you ever been asked to do a scene or something on film that you thought was crazy and wondered if it was offensive/legal? What was it? Did you do the scene or the act anyway?

No I haven’t. I really make sure I know what I am doing. I have an agent in LA, http://spieglergirls.com who screens and books hardcore shoots as well as lets me know the details of the scene. I book my own fetish and BDSM work through companies that have solid reputations and spell out the scenes created.

7) Why do you think America has such a fascination with sex and with regulating sex?

I always question if there is actually a separation of church and state.
It seems like elected officials are influenced by their personal beliefs as well as the supporters without taking the active consideration that most people do not think that way or carry over their belief system to the masses.

8) A lot of people in the industry have told me that most the people in the industry don’t care about protecting free speech, or really about anyone other than themselves and their money. Do you think this is true?
Do you think a lot of the people that are new to the industry care or have any concern about free speech and protecting the right to make movies?

As I mentioned, starting a production company has opened my eyes even more and has made more aware of the situations happening in the adult industry.

9) Is the “character” you play in your DVD’s anything like you in real life?

Absolutely! I don’t know how to be any other way!

10) What is the craziest thing you have done/or scene you’ve been in on camera?

Hmmm pies thrown at me when I was naked and tied up. Picking rocks up with my mouth.

Wow…there are so many wacky things I have done and enjoyed.

11) Have you been involved with trying to change people’s opinions about the industry?

Yes, each day. When I’m travelling speaking with other people I am not hesitant to share what I do.

12) Why do you think the industry is so caught up on the portrayal of
young- a lot of DVD’s always say “18 & 19 years old” etc?

It’s the demand and it is a taboo. The innocence is a fetish.

13) What is your website?

http://diazerva.com (launching end of Summer) and
http://www.clips4sale.com/store/23755
