Free Speech Revolution Interview With Courtney James
by M. Dickinson
1)How long have you been in the industry? How did you get started? Have you had fun in the industry?
I’ve been in the industry for about 2 years, when I went to college I started my own semi-nude site (pictures of me; at the beach, home, school,
etc.) Then people saw the site and emailed me about maybe doing porn. So I dropped out of college at 18, and moved to New York for awhile. Not long after that I got in contact with my first agent Derek (the best in the biz). He flew me out to LA got me set up and put me to work.
I had more fun in the business then I had ever had. There are some great people in the business and I got to do stuff like: body paint, glamour shoots, went to places I’d never been, and not to mention the biggest fun, all the amazing sex! I’ve been able to fulfill all my fantasies, and I love it.
2.) Are you concerned with the rights of the adult industry to make and produce movies/web clips?
I don’t have any real opinion on the subject. I just feel that the police tend to use their position to bully actresses and people on set. They have no real legality to do so but abuse their power and interfere with shoots.
When on certain shoots around citizens, citizens tend to alienate actresses, male talents, directors and other involved with the shoots.
3.) A lot of the problem people have with the adult industry is the misconception that “pornographers” are always trying to lure under age people in and make “kiddie porn”?
That’s actually the dumbest misconception people have about the business.
The porn business is exactly that a “business”. We don’t ever lure or try and convince people to join, because there are at least a thousand new girls entering the business every day. Whether they have an agent or do one scene, there are always fresh new faces coming through the doors of the industry. There are so many girls that look young and are legal, we’d rather do that then do something illegal. Not to mention it would be very hard to get underage porn out in the world and not have to look over your shoulder every day.
There is so much paperwork; ID checks and w9’s, just to mention a few, if those papers are filled out incorrectly you could find yourself jail real quick. The major thought that I stress with all this is that porn industry is not full of perverted criminals we are just normal people who tend to live a different life style and get paid for it.
4.) Could you talk about what it is actually like on set, as far as having ID, signing model releases, having an AIM Test, etc? Have you seen or heard of anyone in the legitimate adult industry knowingly using minors in films or web?
I’ve never heard of such a thing before, I’m not doubting it ever happened, but I’ve never come in contact with someone like that. Like I mentioned before, there is no need for anyone in the industry to try to ‘recruit’ underage people to be in porn. They have no need to put their jobs in jeopardy when they can find people, of legal age, to look the age for anything they would shoot.
Making porn can actually be a hassle sometimes; I mean once the sex starts it’s all downhill from there. First off; before you can shoot, you have to have an AIM test (your results must come back negative for everything) not to mention you have to keep copies with you at all times.
We get tested every 25 days, so when you get to your location; you go in, and you make copies of your picture ID and your Social Security card. Then you sign your model release, and fill out a W-9 or payment wavers. Some companies like, Icy porn (Reality Kings) and Anabolic, go the extra mile to be safe.
Taking such procedures as: to record you holding up both ID’s and answering questions; i.e. ‘Are you willing to do this?’, or ‘Are you under the influence?’ These questions can also get as simple as recording you
saying: age, real name, and stage name, all these are done to protect the companies and to protect the actresses and talent.
Once all that is done; we go in to make up, pick out clothes, and go over the scene.
Then “pretty girl stills”, and by the male talent should be there. If it’s a, “G/G” (girl on girl,) she is with you the whole time. So when the male talent arrives; you meet him, you exchange AIM test and talk a little bit, get to know each other. Most of the time it’s someone you know, due to the lack of male talent. Then you do your scene go take a shower, get paid if its same day pay, then you just wait for your driver and go home. That’s a usual working day in the life of porn actresses.
5.) Do you ever get offended by shows like South Park or Family Guy? What do you think about shows/writing that offends people?
I’m never offended by shows period, especially Family Guy or South Park.
Those are pretty much my favorite shows. I think people could learn a lot from shows like that. For instance learn how to laugh at yourself and others, and realize that life isn’t always to be taken so serious. I think you should be able to say whatever you want, to whoever you want. I’m not saying go out and try and hurt people’s feelings or anything like that.
You should never be told you can’t say something. It’s the people that take shit to far, (I call them idiots) who get offended by shows like that and take it personal.
6.) What do you think about some of the stuff that pushes the limit in the adult industry, stuff like Max Hardcore, Kink.com, and JM Productions?
I actually would call anything in the adult business “pushing the limit”.
Its more on what ‘turns your crank’, different likes and turn-on’s per different people. I’ve worked for JM before and some of their stuff is I guess you could call “normal porn”. I’ve done GGs for them BBG(boy on boy on girl), but then I’ve also done a BGG(boy on girl on girl). In that scene; another actress and myself put on a strap on, and fucked the pizza boy in the ass, degradation was the key. That’s something I’m not really into, (the guy getting it in the ass, not the degrading stuff, I LOVE
THAT!!!) but I’m totally happy I did it, it’s something to talk about and remember.
Companies like kink.com and Max, yea its hardcore and I was asked to do it, but I declined because I don’t like that stuff done to me. I’ll watch it and get off but I don’t want to do it. All the girls on those sites choose if they want to do the scenes or not. So even if the next girl does it, it’s the same to me, good for her if she likes to. I don’t do anything I don’t feel comfortable doing. We are never forced to do anything we don’t want, we decide. That may cause you to lose some shoots.
7.) Have you ever been asked to do a scene or something on film that you thought was crazy and wondered if it was offensive/legal? What was it? Did you do the scene or act anyway?
Not really, if I thought it was illegal I wouldn’t do it, offensive I probably would, and I’d even try and make it more offensive. I’m pretty game for all kinds of crazy stuff; bukkakes, anal (fisted a girl in the ass, fucked a guy in his), I’ve eaten cum off a dirty floor and drank piss. There was one time when I had a GG with this new chick. Even though her test was negative, when I was about to go down on her I saw something on her pussy, so I stopped and told the director “I wouldn’t eat her out, so either get a new girl or I’ll come back a new day.” He just changed the scene so I didn’t have to go down on her.
So anything that could harm my health like STDs and stuff, I won’t do it, but other stuff I’ll probably do it.
8.) Why do you think America has such a fascination with sex and with regulating sex?
Because it’s taboo these days; most Americans were either brought up or taught to think sex is a bad thing. That it’s wrong to talk about it, to want it, or be promiscuous. Sex, one of the most natural and fun things to do, somehow became wrong! Its human nature, we get told not to do something we tend to want to and will be more likely to do it. People are going to do what they are told not to do, that’s half the thrill of doing it, because you know you’re not supposed to. That’s if to say, that the things that I do are wrong, which they aren’t, it’s just the way I am and if you like the same thing, then it’s just they way you are, don’t be ashamed.
There are things in your brain that tell you what you like and tell you what turns you on; your body knows what you’re ‘into’ even if you’re not aware of them. Don’t deny yourself what your body and mind yearn for; much less be ashamed of it.
Society has imposed ‘procedures’ for sex, and if you don’t follow it then your frowned upon. The funny thing is that in the back of everyone head they love, porn or crazy nasty sex, but they hide and follow the herd so they aren’t considered an outsider. People have to be into porn, the porn industry makes millions of dollars a year, which has to hold some validity. The whole idea of regulating sex; is to set a sort of code of behavior a standard on life, society impresses this idea; that you have to act a certain way, and stay by the standards that everyone else chooses.
People hate things they don’t understand that’s why if you like things that most people don’t then you are doomed to be a subject of ridicule.
For some reason if you are, for example: a porn star you’re not a decent human being and are lower than let’s say, the rich company owners, or persistent church goers, even though they watch us and secretly admire it.
9.) A lot of people in the industry have told me that most the people in the industry don’t care about protecting free speech, or really about anyone other than themselves and their money. Do you think this is true?
Do you think a lot of the people that are new to the industry care or have any concern about free speech and protecting the right to make movies?
That’s sadly true, but it’s the same as any other job environment. You have people that are for it and you have people against it. The sad thing about the adult industry is that, our very jobs exist due to freedom of speech.
Just like the rest of the country; there are people who are completely self centered and unappreciative, and people who use their rights everyday because and are there to help us fight for our rights. The adult industry is no different, we have our dumb selfish people and we have people who care. The only thing I wish is that they would at least acknowledge the fact that you should protect free speech, and do something to protect our rights. Our job is the exercising of the freedom of speech to the fullest extent. If we give up and roll over, then sooner or later, it will be illegal to express ourselves through things like porn and such.
Porn is nothing more than art. Its people expressing themselves in the best way they know. I mean seriously what’s not to say that no one ever touched themselves inappropriately to the Statue of David, or to the Mona Lisa? It’s discriminating against porn to call it smut but allow any picture or song come out. It’s hard to think that we could lose our rights, but people not exercising and not standing up for our rights or doing nothing is the fastest way for us to lose it. , but honestly some would love nothing more than to see it end.
10.) Is the “character” you play in your DVD’s anything like you in real life?
I didn’t have many characters in my movies. I never really play outside of myself (Courtney James), you just say and act the way the director wants you to, then during sex you open up a little. I’m actually the same in real life as I am in my movies.
11.) What is the craziest thing you have done/ or scene you been in on camera?
The craziest thing I ever did was probably either the time: I fisted a girl in the ass, (the hardcore dom/sub scene, a GG scene with bondage, where I was dominated, gauged and roughed up.), or the time a fucked a guy in the ass with a strap on. All pretty fun scenes..
12.) Have you been involved with trying to change people’s opinions about the industry?
I don’t try to change peoples’ opinions on it. If they disapprove and don’t care what I have to say, I don’t even bother to talk to them, I just ignore them. I have friends and have met people who wanted to know about it, and I don’t really have any opinions on the matter that are set in stone. I find it most of the time, to be boring talking about the industry and trying to get people to understand it.
The misconception of a persons’ opinion, is that you can have your own, it doesn’t have to be the same as mine or anyone else’s. It’s the understanding that you should still respect the opinions or other people even if you disagree. Most people just don’t know anything about it, and they’re completely naive of what it’s like inside the business.
13.) Why do you think the industry is so caught up on the portrayal of
young- a lot DVD’s always say “18 & 19 years old” Etc?
It’s not so much the Industry that is caught up on barley legal stuff, it’s the fans. Pornography, especially, is one of those businesses that the consumer drives the train. Unlike mainstream Hollywood, the porn industry doesn’t have the money or time to shoot nonsense that won’t sell.
Barley legal genres are the biggest in the business because that’s what everyone wants to see, something else they can’t have, another taboo issue. They’re so young and with such an old guy.
Viewers just pretend that they are the older guy and they have a young pretty girl letting them do all of these things to her. Things she shouldn’t be privy to. Makes people feel younger and powerful to take innocence away. It’s a hot yet naughty scenario, I get off on it. Imagine getting to teach a little girl all these sexual things and corrupt her.
It’s the most common fantasy of them all. She’s 18, so not too long ago she was just a little high school minor and best of all…illegal, and now she’s all yours.
It goes back the issue of taboo, it’s so close to being wrong people get off on it.
14.) What is your website?
I no longer have my website, but I’m in the process of filming for my new site.
