Free Speech Revolution Interview With Monica Mayhem

1) How long have you been in the industry? How did you get started? Have you had fun in the industry?
Since December 2000. I used to work in financial markets, then moved to London and decided to start dancing at the Spearmint Rhino. One night I dared one of the owners to fly me to the states with him, and I met a photographer who introduced me to an agent, who talked me into doing porn.
I’ve had many great times!
2) Could you talk about what it is actually like on a set, as far as having ID, signing model releases, having an AIM test, etc? Have you seen or heard of anyone in the legitimate adult industry knowingly using minors in films or the web?
No, using minors in a professionally company is a big no-no. Everyone must have two forms of government issued ids, HIV/STD no more than 28 days old, and must sign a model release.
3) Do you ever get offended by shows like South Park or Family Guy? What do you think about shows/writing that offends people?
Family Guy is one of my all time favorite shows! I think some people are just too closed minded and have no sense of humor. What is there to be offended about?
4) What do you think about some of the stuff that pushes the limit in the adult industry, stuff like Max Hardcore, Kink.com, JM Productions?
To each their own I say. If the talent doesn’t want to do it, they shouldn’t do it, simple as that, but some people get off on that kind of thing.
5) Have you ever been asked to do a scene or something on film that you thought was crazy and wondered if it was offensive/legal? What was it? Did you do the scene or the act anyway?
Yeah, well, as far as crazy goes, peeing in a guys mouth, beating up a girl. But I did it, and as long as the other talent is okay with it, and I am too, then it’s alright. the beating up the girl video wasn’t like punching her or anything, just being really rough, she loved it.
6) Why do you think America has such a fascination with sex and with regulating sex?
I don’t think it’s just America, it’s a global thing.
There’s so many religious groups out there, they are the ones who seem to love to regulate everything to their own standards, not realizing that everyone should have the freedom of choice, whether it is gay marriage, or having sex for a living.
7) Do you think a lot of the people that are new to the industry care or have any concern about free speech and protecting the right to make movies?
I don’t know to be honest, they should care about free speech, because look at all the criticism we have to put up with for doing what we do.
Is the “character” you play in your DVD’s anything like you in real life?
I am a very sexual person, but there’s Monica Mayhem and there’s the real me too.
9) What is the craziest thing you have done/or scene you’ve been in on camera?
Probably doing a blow bang, it was very rough and a bit uncomfortable for I felt a little violated. But the craziest thing would have to be peeing in a guys mouth.
10) Have you been involved with trying to change people’s opinions about the industry?
Not heavily involved, but I’ve done some short stories for women’s magazines talking about it.
11) Why do you think the industry is so caught up on the portrayal of
young- a lot of DVD’s always say “18 & 19 years old” etc?
it just seems that the young girl thing sells, I don’t know if it’s because there are so many pedophiles out there, or just the fact that they’re young and fresh.
